A Small But Quaint District

Villa Verde Historic District is 1 block wide and 4 streets long. It’s a small neighborhood of quaint Period Revival style picturesque homes including English Cottage homes, Tudors and Cotswold Revivals with a combination of architectural styles.

The Home’s Construction

The home’s construction varies between clinker bricks or stone, red brick, river rock or simple wood frames. Roofs may be gabled or clipped, the chimney may or may not stand out and porch existence stand at about a 50-percent chance. The entry way may or may not be arched. Mostly, these homes are 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom averaging about 900 square feet. Most of these homes have original hardwood floors and a wood-burning fireplace inside.

Close to The Arizona State Fairgrounds

The Arizona State Fairgrounds border Villa Verde east of 19th Avenue. Since 1905 the fair has been an attraction. There has been talk of moving the fairgrounds away from this Phoenix district but nothing is solid on that note…yet.

It’s currently one of the most affordable historic districts in Phoenix and most of these homes still have all their original character intact.

Grand Avenue Nearby

Grand Avenue cuts north and this area is becoming its own, unique arts district. The freight trains still run along Grand several times daily with their very loud but historic horns sounding which can be heard throughout the area. Many consider this very romantic.
