Visit historical homes in Revival, Norman and Bungalow styles in the Coronado Historic District near downtown Phoenix in this tour’s 31st year. A street fair featuring local vendors, food trucks, bicycles and classic cars is part of the celebration.

The District PHX Street Fair and entertainment stage at Coronado Park are FREE for all to enjoy!

This year’s tour will highlight both homes with a preserved history and ones that are fully renovated. Coronado is home to many types of architecture including Craftsman and and California Bungalows, Spanish and Pueblo Revival, Tudor style homes and Early / Transitional Ranch style homes, among others.

VEHICLE PARKING: Coronado is a residential neighborhood, so you may park in front of any home throughout the area and walk to Coronado Park (two blocks north of McDowell Rd. between 12th and 13th Streets). Please be courteous of residents and do not block driveways.

BIKE PARKING: We encourage you to ride your bike to the event. There will be several bike racks available at Coronado Park and one in front of each location on the tour so you can lock your bike up. Please make sure to pick up your bike by 4pm.

A Neighborhood That’s a True Community.

Located in Midtown Phoenix, the Coronado neighborhood (often referred to as Greater Coronado) covers over 1-3/4 square miles (just under 1200 acres) and includes around 4,000 households. Three historic districts – Brentwood, Coronado and Country Club Park – make up much of the neighborhood. Hundreds of small businesses thrive on the neighborhood’s periphery.

The western side of Coronado was constructed largely between 1920 and 1930 and reflects the California Bungalow and Spanish Colonial Revival building styles; the northern side is predominantly ranch styles common of the 1940’s. Throughout the neighborhood you will find the occasional contemporary infill home. Much of our neighborhood falls within the Phoenix Historic Preservation zoning guidelines.

The Coronado neighborhood is centrally located and has direct access to major freeways, is within close proximity of the Phoenix downtown & Central Corridor, the “arts district”, the light rail line, and three major hospitals.

The Coronado Neighborhood Association, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit was established in May 1985 and has been serving the neighborhood for over 30 years.

With over 900 homes, Willo is Phoenix’s biggest historic district. Once a year, Willo opens its doors to visitors with around 12 homes and the historic firehouse available to tour. The event also includes a classic car show, a beer and wine garden and a street fair with local vendors.

3/12: Cave Creek Homes and Garden Tour

Four contemporary and historical homes will open on this self-guided tour. They include the Hamline Residence, which was one of the original five homes built in Carefree, and the Binkovitz Residence, a modest mid-century modern home. No children under age 12 are admitted.

3/26: Encanto/Palmcroft Historic Home Tour and Street Fair

Encanto-Palmcroft Historic District

This stately Phoenix historical district hosts a home tour every two years. Visit several homes and learn about their history. Once you park, a trolley will take you to stops on the tour and to a street fair at Holly Street and 12th Avenue that includes entertainment, food and local vendors. There will also be a 21-and-over raffle.

4/2: Modern Phoenix Home Tour

For those fascinated with the Valley’s mid-century modern architecture, this is a must-do event. This year, the tour explores Paradise Gardens. The event has morphed into Modern Phoenix Week, with talks, socials and other activities.

Coronado Historic District, Phoenix

Once Phoenix had ensured its long-term survival by damming up the Salt River in the early 1900’s, developers got down to the business of plotting the future of the growing Southwestern city, and that future was all about suburbs.

By 1920 one of the largest was the Coronado neighborhood, home to a middle-class population of merchants, policemen, and railroad engineers living in modest bungalows and Tudor Revival cottages, many fronted by small lots with towering palm trees.

These days the neighborhood is drawing a young, artsy crowd, who like to hang out on their front porches and wave to neighbors who pass by. The neighborhood was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. Each spring, residents show off their homes—and often their DIY handiwork—during an annual house tour and community festival.

The Houses In Coronado

Small to medium-size Tudor, Craftsman, and Ranch houses, built from about 1920 to 1940, are predominant. Prices start at around $150,000 – $175,000. Houses often include a freestanding garage out back with matching architectural details. During the Great Depression, many residents converted their garage into an apartment, moved in, and rented their home.

The Coronado Neighborhood Association welcomes you to a Picnic in the Park, the 29th Annual Coronado Home Tour. This year we will gather at Circle Park and enjoy food and picnic games surrounded by music, arts and crafts for the kids, a lively street fair, homes open for tour and the Coronado Classic car and bicycle show.

This year’s tour will highlight the Country Club Historic District, one of three historic districts in the Greater Coronado neighborhood. Country Club Park earned historic designation in 1993 and has a history dating to 1888 when Charles Orme filed a homestead patent for the area. Home Tour tickets can be purchased in advance online for $13 (including fees) or on Tour Day for $15 cash or credit. Pick up your wrist band (your pass to the homes on tour) and Home Tour Guide at the ticket booths on each end of Circle Park.
